A note from the Headteacher

As we reach the end of our first four weeks back at Endon High School, I wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on what has been an exceptionally positive start to the new academic year.

Our new Year 7 pupils have settled into life at Endon brilliantly. They have quickly embraced our routines and expectations, and their attitude to learning has been excellent. It has been a real pleasure to see them approach this new chapter with such enthusiasm, maturity and determination. They are already very much part of Team Endon.

Across the school, the atmosphere has been calm, purposeful and settled. Pupils are working hard in lessons, moving around school sensibly and demonstrating the high standards we expect of them. Our expectations of being Ready, Respectful and Responsible are well established, and I have been particularly pleased by the positive attitude and work ethic I see as I visit lessons each day.

Of course, being part of Endon is about much more than what happens in lessons. Endzone is already thriving, with pupils taking advantage of the many clubs, activities and opportunities available beyond the classroom. I would really encourage you to talk to your child about what they could get involved in. Trying something new, developing an interest or representing the school are all important parts of school life and help our young people discover that “There is more in you.”

We also held our Year 6 Open Evening this month, which was incredibly successful and exceptionally busy. It was wonderful to welcome so many prospective pupils and their families into our school and to give them a glimpse of the warmth, ambition and high expectations that characterise Endon. I was immensely proud of the pupils who helped us throughout the evening; they represented their school superbly and were the very best ambassadors for Team Endon.

Thank you, as always, for the support you provide from home. The partnership between pupils, families and staff is an important part of what makes our school community so strong.

There is much to look forward to this year, but we could not have asked for a better start. I am incredibly proud of our pupils and staff and look forward to building on these first four weeks together.

Car Park and Community Roads Reminder

Car parking at school is very limited and the movement of cars on site can be a significant health and safety concern when we are over capacity. Therefore, we ask parents and carers to never drive onto the school site unless you are visiting school with an appointment. We would love to have the space and capacity to allow parents to safely drop off and pick up. However, the car park and site does not provide us with adequate space. Even when the car park is re-modelled the site will not have space to make this possible. 

A limited number of parents are given permission to use the car park due to accessibility issues. 

We recognise that there are significant parking and drop-off/pick-up pressures around the school, particularly at the beginning and end of the school day, and that some congestion in our local community is unavoidable.

We politely ask all parents and carers to help us by driving and parking safely, considerately and in accordance with the Highway Code. Please be particularly mindful of parking restrictions and double yellow lines, grass verges, junctions and our neighbours’ driveways and access.

From time to time, local residents contact the school to ask for our support with concerns about traffic, parking and driving around the school. We work with our local community and PCSOs to support a safe environment for everyone, and we ask all members of Team Endon to play their part by showing the same respect and consideration beyond our school gates that we expect within them.

Once parents are signed up to the Arbor app can we ask you to please check your and your child's details are correct and the consents are reviewed.

Parent's Information Evenings

We'll meet Year 9 parents in the new year to discuss the Year 9 option process.

Year 11 Mentoring

A reminder that the Year 11 mentoring programme continues on Tuesday 29th September. All Year 11s meet their mentor at 8.30am on week  2 Tuesday mornings. 

We look forward to seeing all of Year 11 at their next session at 8.30am.

Endzone & Enrichment

Pupils have been having assemblies this week looking at the importance of extra-curricular activities and launching the clubs we have on offer. Make sure you keep an eye on future bulletins and Student Notices for new clubs starting as we run a rolling programme alternating with intervention sessions.

Year 7 Standon Bowers

We are so excited to be getting closer to our Standon Bowers visit. Please be aware that the deadline to sign students up to the Standon Bowers visit on 7th to 9th October is Wednesday 30th September 8am. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to add students to the trip after this time.

In order to provide you with key information about this upcoming visit, we would like to invite the parents/carers of students signed up to the visit to an information evening on Wednesday 30th September at 5pm in the Main Hall. Students need not attend as they will be given information in an assembly at school. If you are unable to attend at this time, please do not worry as the information will also be sent out via email.

Furthermore, so that students and parents/carers have more time to prepare for this visit, the below kit list is what students will need to bring with them on the visit.

Allergy Information Reminder

Please note that Endon High School operates as a nut-free site, and has now extended this to being sesame-seed free as well. Many common packed-lunch items and snacks can contain sesame (for example, hummus, tahini, seeded bread, cereal bars), so we ask you to:

  • Review the ingredients of what your child brings for lunch.
  • Remind your child not to bring any items containing nuts or sesame seeds/oil.

    This measure supports pupils who have severe allergies to nuts and/or sesame — reactions may be triggered even by airborne exposure in some cases.

    Please be aware that allergies can escalate quickly and require immediate medical attention. For your information and reference, here are a few helpful links and guidance for parents:

    Autism Parent Awareness Sessions

    The Autism Inclusion Team is pleased to be offering a range of free Parent Awareness Sessions this autumn for parents and carers of children with an autism diagnosis or who are on the pathway for an assessment, attending a Staffordshire school. These sessions are also open to families whose child has not yet been referred to our service.

    The sessions cover a range of topics including:

    • Raising Self-esteem
    • Emotional Regulation
    • Autism and Masking
    • Reducing Barriers to Education
    • Autism in the Early Years
    • Girls and Autism
    • Autism and Eating

    We know that schools play a vital role in connecting families with support, so we would be grateful if you could share the attached flyer with parents and carers through your usual communication channels.

    Attendance

    • The School attendance target is 96%​
    • Persistent absence target of less than 10% of students (Missing more than 10% of school days)​

    90% in a test at school would be praised.​ However, 90% attendance = 20 days off school each year, 600 minutes of lost learning each day or 100 hours per year. Over the course of 5 years at Endon high school, your child would have missed 500 hours or 100 days (half a school year).​

    Exam results and attendance ​ How are these linked at Endon High School?​

    Based on the Year 11 data from 2023/24, attendance between 0% and 49% resulted in pupils, on average, achieving 2.7 grades below their target across all eight subjects​. Attendance between 75% and 89% resulted in pupils, on average, achieving almost one grade below their target in all eight subjects.​ Attendance of 95% or better resulted in pupils, on average, achieving half a grade better than predicted grades in each of their subjects.​ Attendance matters.

    Uniform - Ready Checks

    Mrs Eastwood and the Pastoral Team have been conducting Ready Checks over the past few weeks. Please ensure your child is wearing the correct uniform and meeting out expectations. Thank you for your support.

    The school uniform information is clearly shared on the school website, click here to view.  Please support us to support you by naming every item of clothing including coats! Lost property accrues too many unidentified pieces of uniform.
