Continuing Hot Weather Arrangments

Due to the current forecast for the next few days we are re-continuing the hot weather dress code protocols for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Dresscode on Thursday and Friday will be determined by trip/activity leaders but must be appropraite for school.

All pupil arriving in inappropriate short shorts will be expected to change. We have uniform in the school uniform shop that they will be expected to wear.

Uniform Policy update reminder: If any pupils wish to wear their school uniform but swap their charcoal grey trousers or charcoal grey  skirt and wear charcoal grey tailored knee length shorts, they are welcome to. This will be an unbranded item that you can buy from retail outlets, not the uniform stockists as we have not asked them to stock this - yet. We will update the school uniform policy to reflect this next academic year but these arrangements are suitable immediately.

New Uniform arrangements

As we approach the end of the academic year, we would like to remind families of some updates to our school uniform expectations and outline the arrangements for next year.

Summer Uniform
With immediate effect, pupils may choose to wear charcoal grey tailored, knee-length shorts instead of the standard charcoal grey trousers or skirt. These shorts should be a plain, unbranded tailored style and can be purchased from any high street or retail outlet. They are not currently available from our uniform suppliers. This option will be formally incorporated into our School Uniform Policy from the start of the next academic year, but pupils are welcome to wear them now.

Branded Uniform Items
Our uniform policy permits pupils to wear up to four branded uniform items. At present, the required uniform consists of three branded items. From September, we will be reintroducing the branded PE shorts and branded skort (the skirt with built-in shorts) as compulsory items of PE kit. This change is intended to address the ongoing issue of pupils wearing inappropriate shorts for PE while ensuring consistency and fairness across the school.

Hot Weather Expectations
Looking ahead to next summer, we will not be introducing an option for pupils to wear PE kit during the school day in periods of hot weather.

Instead, we expect:

  • Girls to wear their school uniform skirts.
  • Boys to wear the optional charcoal grey tailored shorts described above.

We believe this provides a smarter, more practical solution for warm weather. The standard school uniform, including lightweight cotton shirts, is more suitable for prolonged wear in high temperatures than black PE kit, which is designed for sport rather than all-day classroom use. This approach will also ensure a consistent, smart appearance and remove the need for the ad hoc use of PE kit on hot days.

Thank you for your continued support in maintaining our high standards of uniform and presentation.

Mobile phone pouches

Following our announcement in bulletin no.15 and the letter dates the 8th May, we can update everyone that the mobile phone pouches have arrived in school and will now be introduced in September.

Welcome Year 6 and Thank You Buddies

It has been great to see the Year 6s at Intake evening and we look forward to seeing them again on their transito days tomorrow and Tuesday.

Congratulations to all our twenty Year 8 buddies, who are trained and ready to assist our Year 6 in September. The twenty pupils were shortlisted from the from the fifty we had apply.

They have all now completed their formal training by Mind Macca project and also Mrs Tapley (Mental Health lead) and are ready and raring to go.

The Final Bulletin No.20, coming soon...

A New Way to Celebrate Our School Year

Over the last few years, our communication with families has evolved significantly. Alongside our established Fortnightly Bulletin, which keeps parents informed of important notices and upcoming events, our vibrant Facebook page now captures the day-to-day life of Endon High School, celebrating pupils' achievements, learning experiences and memorable moments as they happen.

Having reflected on this, we have decided that our traditional termly newsletter has become less relevant, as much of its content has already been shared throughout the term via these channels.

Instead, we are excited to introduce something new.

This year we will be publishing our first Endon High School Annual – a high-quality, full-colour celebration of the school year. Rather than simply repeating news already shared, the Annual will bring together the very best moments from across the year, creating a lasting record of school life that celebrates our pupils, staff and wider community. We hope it will become something that families enjoy looking back on for years to come.

Alongside the Annual, we are also producing a new School Handbook for pupils, parents and staff. This will provide all the key information about life at Endon High School in one place, replacing the need for much of the information that has traditionally appeared in newsletters. Work on the handbook is well underway, and we plan to publish it early in the summer holidays so that everyone is ready for the new academic year.

Both the Endon High School Annual and the School Handbook will be shared with families in Bulletin 20, which will be published at the start of the summer break.

We hope these new publications, alongside our regular Bulletins and Facebook updates, will provide an even better way of celebrating our school whilst ensuring families continue to receive timely and useful information throughout the year.

Thrive Project

Dear upcoming Year 9 Parent and Carers (cuurent Year 8),

As is our policy, the upcoming Year 9 pupils are been invited to take part in the 1:1 iPad programme called the Thrive Project.

The Thrive Project is a digital strategy that aims to enhance the quality of teaching and learning at Endon High School and enable pupils to be better prepared to thrive in an ever changing world.

Over the past few years the school has invested in the infrastructure and capacity necessary to take this next step. We believe that this programme will meet the Thrive Project's five key aims:

We believe the Thrive Project will supercharge our ability to fulfil our School Mission:

  • To inspire confident learners and take them on a journey of opportunities throughout Endon High School so that they can thrive academically, socially, physically and emotionally, within a happy and caring environment.
  • We expect all members of our school community to value: Curiosity, Determination and Kindness. To be ready, be respectful and be responsible. To believe in our motto - that everyone has more in them. We aspire to equip everyone with the knowledge, understanding, skills and qualities needed to achieve success at the highest level.
  • Empowering every learner to go beyond their best and aim for excellence in everything they do, so that they may all follow a quality pathway after Endon High School and thrive in an ever-changing world.

The iPad Scheme

We understand that the costs of students having an iPad, protective case and a stylus pen are not easily affordable, which is why the school is subsiding the cost significantly. The remaining cost is met by parents/carers and is available to you via 34 monthly payments, or a one off direct debit if you prefer, at the end of which you will have full ownership of the iPad. We are aware that this period will take you beyond the time your child is at Endon High School. Therefore, at a to be agreed date in late Year 11, we will give parents/carers the opportunity to pay the remaining balance and take ownership of the device.

The scheme will open to contributions on ParentPay from Wednesday 15th July 2026

Contributing to the iPad scheme will cost £10.30 per pupil per month for 34 months.

This is a total cost of £357 over three years. The school will pay any residual value costs to enable you to take ownership of the iPad when your son/daughter leaves at the end of Year 11. Up until your child leaves, and the iPads is handed over to you, the iPad remains the property of Endon High School and the Shaw Education Trust.

However, we estimate that the trade in value of the iPad after the scheme ends will be approximately £100, meaning the scheme could cost you the equivalent of £257, or £7.65 per month, or £1.89 per week.

In September, you can choose to contribute:

  • £10.30 per month
  • or £119 per year
  • or the one off cost of £357.

These options will be available on Parentpay, please choose the option that suits you best.

We want to be clear that Endon High School makes no profit from this scheme. It is purely about investing in your child’s future.

What will you get for your contribution?

  • Access to an Apple iPad (Education model)
  • A tough case
  • An iPad Pen
  • A managed Apple ID
  • Appropriate apps to assist teaching and learning
  • Monitoring and Safeguarding software
  • Access to high speed managed WiFi when on the school site
  • Insurance for accidential breakages*
  • Complete ownership of the device at the end of Year 11 — with all restrictions fully removed when your child leaves in Year 11.

*The school will cover the cost of the first incident of accidental damage, expect a parental contribution if there is a second and expect parents to pay the cost of replacing the iPad if there is a third.

If a pupil is supported with Free School Meals by the Pupil Premium Grant their parental contribution will be waived. Further information will be emailed to eligible parents in September.

If you child leave us before the end of Year 11, you can either return the iPad without any reimbursement of contributions or top up your contributions to the full amount and take ownership of the iPad.

The Thrive project:

When we launched our Thrive project and iPad ambition in 2021. While our original aim was to work towards fully fund this scheme, significant and sustained increases in school operating costs, including energy, staffing, and resources, have made that unfeasible. However, our commitment to your child’s learning remains unchanged. We have been able to fund iPads for KS3 but ask you to share in the cost of supporting pupils into KS4 and enable them to take the iPads onwards to college and KS5. The School is committed to making this scheme as affordable as possible.

By joining this scheme, you are helping to sustain and strengthen our vision for digital excellence across the school, and your child will be among the first to benefit from the most up-to-date technology available.

Once subscribed to contribute, and when you and your child have signed the user agreement, the School will provide your child with access to an Apple iPad (Education model) with the pen and cover. The iPads will be distributed, with an induction into the Thrive Project, at a planned launch day in September.
