Relationships and sex education (RSE) and health education - GOV.UK
L4L is taught for 1x 100 minute lesson per fortnight and within 1 form time per week.

As per our RSE policy and Government document a pupil cannot withdraw from any aspect of RSE statutory education apart from the sex education part not included under relationships and health, , Further to this in accordance with the DfE’s ‘Sex and Relationship Education Guidance’ 2000 and 2025, there are certain aspects of sex and relationship education which are compulsory for pupils to learn within the science curriculum as they progress through the key stages (highlighted below)
If you wish your child to be withdrawn from any RSE lessons a formal letter must be received by the leadership team with your reasons. A meeting may also take place between the leadership team and yourself to discuss this.

That fertilisation in humans is the fusion between the egg and sperm. About the physical and emotional changes that take place during adolescence. How the foetus grows and develops. How the growth and reproduction of bacteria and viruses can affect health, including those which are blood borne and/or sexually transmitted. |
Curriculum Period 1: 500 mins of content
Curriculum content
Session 1 - Wellbeing, physical and mental health. Managing change.
Session 2 - Mental health and the media (including Jesy Nelson documentary)
Session 3- Smoking and alcohol - financial costs and other impacts (this including information on vaping)
Session 4 - Drugs - the laws surrounding them, focus on edibles and 2021 police report on vaping
Session 5- - Being safe focus on alcohol and spiking.
2026 Form time session content includes Plagiarism, British values, protected characteristics, use of Unifrog, transition into Year 9, growth mindset, appropriate assertiveness, effective communication, dealing with relationships growing up, how to eat well, target setting, personal safety and first aid review (allergies and choking)
Assessment
The first assessment will be 40 mins long and will contain 50 marks. The content will come from the first 5 100 mins sessions

As part of the additional time with the assessment block and form time slot all pupils will have their introduction lesson on using Unifrog platform. Pupils will be given the opportunity to log on, try the personality and skills sets and also explore what pathways are available to them post 16 within our are

Session 6 - Cancer - what is it, prevention and treatment (Teenage cancer trust approved resources) Parents informed prior to session
Session 7 - Relationships and consent.
Session 8- What is sexual health, contraception and why is it important? This is link to statutory science curriculum too and health element of RSE guidance.
Session 9 - Eating disorders - what these are signposted support (link with Freddie Flintoff documentary when available)
Session 10- E safety- The dangers of viewing harmful content. Where to get support to report material and manage issues online. The impact of viewing harmful content. E Safety week link

Assessment
This will be a 40 mins paper and will contain 90% of the marks from session 6 and 7 from curriculum period 1 and lesson 1-3 in curriculum period 2. The remaining 10% will link with work done within the form time sessions.
Form time focus - reinforce and recap relationships how to deal with conflict, reinforcing protected characteristics, key terminology including bigotry, prejudice and discrimination, British values and community cohesion, dangerous relationships, effective communication

Assessment
The assessment will have a primary focus on Curriculum Period 2 but will also recap topics from Curriculum Periods 1 .Subject advice and guidance
