Curriculum Allocation

Computing is taught for one 100 minute lesson per fortnight.

Curriculum Period 1:

Curriculum content

Unit 1 - Data representation

The aim of this unit, is to build upon the knowledge acquired in Year 7 on the binary topic and develop a more thorough understanding.

Lesson 1 - Review of Binary

Lesson 2 - ASCII

Unit 2 - HTML

The aim of this unit, is to introduce HTML scripting to develop a website.

Lesson 1 - Introduction to HTML

Lesson 2 - Formatting webpages and adding images

Lesson 3 - Further HTML Scripting

Lesson 4- 6 - Design and Create a website

Assessment

Students will complete a computer based assessment on the lessons covered above.

The assessment will be 30 minutes and will include multiple choice questions, a skill based task and an extended writing question.

    Unit 2 - My Digital world

    This unit aims to build student's understanding of how they can trust a source of information and stay safe when using technology

    Lesson 1 - Trustworthy sources of information

    Lesson 2 - Effective methods of searching the Internet

    Lesson 3 - Copyright

    Lesson 4 - Avoiding online dangers

    Assessment

    Students will complete an assessment based on Python covered in lesson taught up until the assessment. It will be a computer based assessment.

    The assessment will be 30 minutes and will be both multiple choice and a skill based task to assess their understanding of the programming concepts covered in lessons.

      Unit 3 - My Digital world

      This unit aims to build student's understanding of how they can trust a source of information and stay safe when using technology

      Lesson 5 - Dealing with Cyber abuse

      Lesson 6 - How to avoid online scams

      Unit 4 - Binary

      This unit builds upon students current binary knowledge.

      Lesson 1- Binary addition

      Lesson 2 - Representing Images

      Lesson 3 - Representing Text

      Lesson 4 - Representing Sound

      Lesson 5 - Hexadecimal

      Lesson 6 - Units of Computer Memory 

      Assessment

      Students will complete a computer based assessment on the lessons covered above.

      The assessment will be 30 minutes and will include multiple choice questions, a skill based task and an extended writing question.
