In year 7 students will begin their journey through the Key Stage 3 National Curriculum for science.
Curriculum Allocation
Science is taught for a total of four 100 minute lessons per fortnight. Over the course of the year the lessons will be equally distributed between Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons.
Y7 Curriculum Period 1:
Content covered in this period
- Cells
- Particles
- Forces
- Reproduction
Assessment
Students will sit an exam of 60 minutes in the first assessment window.
Students will also be regularly assessed through "mastery quizzes" at the end of each unit to help inform both staff and students of their areas of strength and weakness. This can be used by staff to inform lesson content and by students to prepare best for their assessments.
Y7 Curriculum Period 2:
Content covered in this period
- Atoms, Elements and Compounds
- Space
- Interdependence
- Mixtures
- Energy
- Circuits
Assessment
Students will sit an exam of between 60 and 75 minutes in the second assessment window. This exam will focus on the content taught during CP2 but at least 25% of the exam will be based on the topics studied for CP1.
Students will also be regularly assessed through "mastery quizzes" at the end of each unit to help inform both staff and students of their areas of strength and weakness. This can be used by staff to inform lesson content and by students to prepare best for their assessments.
Revision resources
Students can access Seneca revision at www.senecalearning.com. Students should login using their office 365 account which uses their Endon High School email and password.
In firefly students can access all lessons for each unit, along with Knowledge Organisers, Glossaries and Schemes of Learning.
