Year 11 pupils will continue the AQA GCSE Combined Science: Trilogy or GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

11XO will study the separate GCSE pathway. The other classes will study the Combined Science pathway.

Students will receive GCSE grades from each of their mock examinations.

At the end of the year, all students will sit 6 exams in science - 2 in biology, 2 in chemistry and 2 in physics.

The topics covered in each exam are listed below:

The exams for separate science are each 1 hour 45 minutes long whereas for Combined Science they are 1 hour 15 minutes.

Students studying the separate sciences will be awarded 1 GCSE in each subject.

Students studying Combined Science will have all their papers combined to give 2 GCSE grades.

Revision materials have been collated centrally here.

Curriculum Allocation

Science is taught for a total of six 100 minute lessons per fortnight. This will comprise 2 biology, 2 chemistry and 2 physics lessons with a specialist teacher for each discipline.

AQA GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Physics

These topics will be followed by 11XO. They are broadly the same topics as studied in Combined Science, with some extra content and practicals and a few extra topics not studied at all in the Combined Science GCSE.

More information on these specifications can be found here: Biology, Chemistry, Physics

Y11 Curriculum Period 1:

Content taught during in this period

Students will finish their study of the paper 2 topics:

  • Biology: B14 Variation and Evolution, B15 Genetics and Evolution, B16 Adaptation and evolution, B17 Organisation of an Ecosystem, B18 Human Effects on Ecosystems
  • Chemistry: C9 Crude Oil and Fuels, C10 Organic Reactions, C11 Polymers, C12 Chemical Analysis, C13 Our Atmosphere, C14 The Earth's Resources
  • Physics: P11 Forces and Motion P12 Wave Properties, P13 Electromagnetic Waves, P14 Light, P15 Electromagnetism, P16 Space

The first mock exam will be sat in November and will cover the Paper 1 topics covered in years 9 and 10. This will be the same content as assessed at the end of year 10 and students should use the QLA sheets from those exams to help them prepare. This will be different to the content being taught in class. Topics taught in class will be assessed during lessons and in the second mock window.

Students will sit 3 exams, 1 for each of biology, chemistry and physics and they will be 1 hour 45 minutes long each.

    • Physics: P15 Electromagnetism, P16 Space

The second mock paper will cover all the paper 2 topics studied in class during year 10 and year 11.

Students will sit 3 exams, 1 for each of biology, chemistry and physics and they will be 1 hour 45 minutes long each.
