Curriculum Allocation

Religious Studies is taught for 3 x 100 minute lessons per fortnight.

Curriculum Content;

In Religious Studies we teach the curriculum by interweaving the subject knowledge and content. This means that we do not always teach the entirety of a module, instead we will break it down and develop the knowledge over time based on concepts found within the religion being studied.

Curriculum Period 1:

Curriculum content - Autumn/Winter Term

COMPONENT 1 - Christianity Beliefs and Teachings

  • Nature of God, Omnipotent, Just, Omnibenevolent
  • Trinity
  • Problem of Evil
  • Creation narratives and alternative views
  • Gospel of John
  • The Fall of Adam and Eve - Sanctity of Human Life

COMPONENT 2 - THEME A - Relationships and Families 

This module is taught as a discrete topic and will be taught in full.

Assessment

The assessment done here will be a full assessment on both modules, Questions 1-5 based on all the learning done in this period.

    COMPONENT 1 - Islam Beliefs and Teachings

    • Nature of Allah - Supremacy, Oneness, Just (Adalat). 1st Pillar of Islam - SHAHADA.
    • Problem of Evil (Islamic responses - linking to supremacy)
    • Prophethood - Risalah
    • Adam and Ibrahim
    • Prophet Muhammad
    • Leadership - Ali or Abu Bakr
    • Diversity of Beliefs - Sunni (6 articles of faith and Shi'a (5 Usul ad din) Islam

    Assessment

    Students will sit 2 modules Questions 1 - 5

    Component 1 - Christianity Beliefs and Teachings (this will complete this module)

    • Who is Jesus?
    • Incarnation
    • Crucifixion
    • Resurrection
    • Salvation, Atonement and Grace
    • Parable of the Sheep and Goats
    • Revelation - Heaven and Hell

    Component 2 - THEME D - Religion, Peace and Conflict

    • Is war ethical? The Just War Theory
    • What is a Holy War?
    • Moral standpoint of pacifism
    • Violence and Violent Protest
    • Terrorism
    • Forgiveness and Reconciliation
    • Supporting Victims of War

    Assessment

    Two modules - Christianity
