Year 10 pupils will continue the AQA GCSE Combined Science (Trilogy) or GCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics (Triple Science).
10XO and 10YO will study the separate GCSE pathway. The other classes will study the Combined Science pathway.
Students will receive a GCSE grade indicator after the CP2 exams.
Curriculum Allocation
Science is taught for a total of six 100 minute lessons per fortnight. This will comprise 2 biology, 2 chemistry and 2 physics lessons with a specialist teacher for each discipline.
AQA GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Physics
These topics will be followed by 10XO. They are broadly the same topics as studied in Combined Science, with some extra content and practicals and a few extra topics not studied at all in the Combined Science GCSE.
Chemistry: C3 Structure and Bonding, C4 Chemical Calculations,
Physics: P5 Electricity in the Home, P6 Molecules and Matter
Students will sit 3 exams in the assessment window, 1 for each science. These exams will be 1 hour 15 minutes long and cover all the content of curriculum period 1 and the topics of year 9.
Y10 Curriculum Period 2:
Content covered in this period
Biology: B10 Nervous System+T10 Brain and Eye, B11 Hormonal Control, B12 Homeostasis in Action, B13 Reproduction
Chemistry: C6 Electrolysis, C7 Fuel Cells, C8 Rates and Equilibrium, C9 Crude Oil and Fuels, C10 Organic Reactions, C11 Polymers, C12 Chemical Analysis
Physics: P7 Radioactivity, P8 Forces in Balance, P9 Motion, P10 Forces and Motion
Students will sit 3 exams in the assessment window, 1 for each science. These exams will be 1 hour 15 minutes long and cover all the paper 1 content covered so far.
The remaining topics will be assessed in class.
Students will receive a separate GCSE grade in each science.
The topics assessed in each exam are listed below:
Most students will follow the AQA Combined Science Trilogy specification for the GCSE study. More information about this specification can be found here.
